Spain and Japan have been connected by the idea of the sun in their long-shared history of cultures and artistic forms. The energy of this star, which generates community and is committed to a decarbonised future, is a metaphor for the engine of life, an element of union, a mediator between oceans and worlds.

For “The sun itself which is no longer a mirror”, the artist Ruth Gómez has created the animation video Suimenka. The Japanese word that gives the work its title, which means ‘under the surface of the water’, opens up a visual universe related to the ecosystems of Japan and Spain, through a dialogue between the imaginaries of the sun and water. With an approach of interspecies empathy, it develops a magical-onyric landscape where beings from both countries coexist, in a plea about the loss of biodiversity.

Spain's participation in the 2025 Osaka Expo represents a unique opportunity to showcase the innovation, creativity, and sustainability that characterize our country. With the theme "The Kuroshio Current," the Spain pavilion seeks to connect with visitors through an immersive experience that celebrates the relationship between Spain and the sea.

Acción Cultural Española (AC/E) organises the Spain Pavilion and Spain's activities at Expo Osaka 2025, and the architecture and design firms Néstor Montenegro, Enorme Studio, and Smart and Green Design were awarded the commission to create the Spain Pavilion at the 2025 World Expo in Osaka.

España y Japón han estado conectados por la idea del sol en su larga historia compartida de culturas y formas artísticas. La energía de este astro, generadora de comunidad y apuesta por un futuro descarbonizado, es una metáfora del motor de la vida, un elemento de unión, mediador entre océanos y mundos.

Para El sol mismo que no es ya espejo, la artista Ruth Gómez ha creado el vídeo de animación Suimenka. La palabra japonesa que da título a la obra, que significa “bajo la superficie del agua”, abre un universo visual relacionado con los ecosistemas de Japón y España, mediante un diálogo entre los imaginarios del sol y el agua. Con un enfoque de empatía interespecie, desarrolla un paisaje mágico-onírico donde coexisten seres de los dos países, en un alegato sobre la pérdida de biodiversidad.

La participación de España en la Expo 2025 de Osaka, Japón, representa una oportunidad única para mostrar al mundo la innovación, la creatividad y la sostenibilidad que caracterizan a nuestro país. Con el lema "La corriente de Kuroshio", el pabellón español busca conectar con los visitantes a través de una experiencia inmersiva que celebra la relación entre España y el mar.

El Pabellón y la actividad desarrollada por España están organizados por Acción Cultural Española (AC/E), y los estudios de arquitectura y diseño Néstor Montenegro, Enorme Studio y Smart and Green Design han sido los encargados de diseñar el Pabellón de España en Expo Osaka 2025.
